About Me

Gilles in the Wahiba Sands, Sultanat of Oman

My name is Gilles, and I am a French Traveller and Photographer who has been discovering the world for over 20 years. These journeys – some short, others longer like two „Trips Around the World” in 2007 and in 2015, took me to more than 70 countries on all continents except Antarctica.

I sometimes use roads well traveled to discover world famous sights, but most of the time I try to choose more “Off The Beaten Track” experiences, though travel styles and destination types have widely changed through times, probably somewhat linked with my personal situation…

I have never been a budget backpacker travelling the toughest and cheapest possible way, but I am an experienced rucksack traveler who appreciates a minimum level of comfort, willing to make the most of each Travel experience. Yes, you may call me a “Flashpacker”…

My blog www.GrandEscapades.net is about “Travel Photography” & “Flashpacking” in Africa, South America, the Middle East & Asia. I want it to be helpful for those who, like me, feel like Backpackers but are no longer ready (never were ready?) for the hardcore type of budget travel. I want my blog to be a source of inspiration to discover the Unknown, with a focus on organizing & budgeting trips, no matter how short or long.

Here you find a selection of pictures of me through 20 years of travelling…
