29 Tips For Improving Your Travel Pictures At Markets – Part II

Part II – Photo Technics

Bac Ha Sunday Market, North Vietnam

No matter where I travel, I immensely enjoy visiting markets. Many of them, especially in Africa & in Asia, but also in the Middle East & in South America, are an assault to your senses: colorful and at times disorientating, aromatic or even intoxicating, vibrant and eventually hectic places… But this is where “the real life” can be found, so different from touristic highlights (though some markets have turned extremely popular in the last years, even amongst tour groups…) Continue Reading →

China – A Selection Of 54 Pictures

In Chengyang, a Dong Village near Sanjiang, Guilin region, China

We traveled the 30 days our visa permitted throughout China’s southwestern provinces in Mai 2008: Guangxi (Guilin, Yangshuo), Sichuan (Chengdu, Leshan, Emei Shan), Yunnan (Lijiang, Dali, Kunming, Yuanyang) & Xishuangbanna (Jingling). This was definitely not enough! Nevertheless, we now know it can be easily done without a common language. This introduction to China also was an immense eye opener and some of the negative concepts we had of this country we corrected or simply vanished! Continue Reading →

Malawean Kwachas – Approx. 280 €

You should certainly give photography a good thought about before going on a Trip Around The World or a Long Term Trip. Above all, ask yourself two important questions:

This is probably one of the biggest mistakes we made when preparing for our Trip Around The World in 2007 / 2008. We did not take any photo classes. Our photos would have been so much better, if we had understood some basics, kike how Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO and Focal length influence the final outcome of a photo. Afterwards, it is truly frustrating to realize how poor photos of spectacular motifs could have been easily avoided. Continue Reading →

Once you have found the answer to what kind of photos do I want to bring back from such a trip, choosing the right cameras might become a rather long and painful process… We spent hours and hours looking for the right camera, and more often than not got completely contradictory information from various sources… Not to mention that qualified advice and counsel are the exception rather than the norm, even in specialized shops. Back in 2007, during our Trip Around The World Trip, we belonged to the very small group of people traveling with a computer (at that time a Sony Vaio 13’’). Now it seems that this exception has turned into the rule… Continue Reading →
