A Few Glimpses of Menorca

Cala Macarelleta, Menorca

Balearic Islands were never top of my list, since I somehow associated them with mass tourism at its worst. Ibiza had already taken me by surprise, so I was much keener on lessoning to friends when they raved about Menorca. Indeed, this Balearic Island is worth the trip!

4 days actually are not enough, I would recommend spending at least one week on Menorca if you want to really discover the island.

Being off season is surely a good idea, though we were maybe a bit too much off season, as most restaurants and places, especially once outside of Mao & Ciutadella, were still closed and only about to reopen after Easter.

So why go there?

  • A large variety of landscapes, ranging from a wild, jagged coast, swept by the winds in the north, to mediterranean coves with crystal waters in the south
  • Historic city centres free of cars that invite to aimlessly stroll the maze of small streets
  • Beautiful costal paths around the island for short and long hikes, depending on your priorities
  • And last but not least sampling some Spanish cuisine and local wines
