The trip from Qom to Teheran was swift, it is only one hour by train or bus. Quickly we learned our first lesson, it was a big mistake to stay in the very center, close to the many museums and tourist attractions. Traffic is abysmal, pollution nauseating, it is noisy, crossing the road a suicidal affair and the cab ride from the bus station to the hotel is a nightmare.

Our hotel, the Khayyam was a 10 minutes walk from Khomeini Square, in a shabby neighborhood where every shop dealt with car parts. Cars were fixed right at the very spot and porters pushed all kinds of wares through thick traffic, both further blocking the already congested streets. It is something we will be ticked off as experience.

In Teheran, IranOur lesson learned: we should have booked a hotel on the metro line up north, which gives easy access to the museums and sights. Iranians that we met were shocked about where we lived and confessed they had never set foot in the area.
